Introduction
Starting a career in the life sciences industry can feel overwhelming. Many students focus only on technical knowledge and later realize that interviews and workplace communication require a completely different set of skills. For one of our learners Abel George, the journey through Bversity became more than just learning bioinformatics tools. It became a process of building confidence, learning how to communicate ideas clearly, and preparing for real industry conversations. This experience eventually helped him successfully begin his professional journey at Agilisium.
Building Confidence Through Regular Mentor Interactions
One thing that really helped me throughout the placement process was confidence in communication. During the course, we had regular interactions with mentors and leadership members like Raghul, which made me comfortable speaking with experienced professionals. Over time, conversations with senior people started feeling natural rather than intimidating.
Having those discussions regularly helped remove the fear of speaking to professionals. Instead of worrying about saying the perfect thing, I learned how to share ideas clearly and ask thoughtful questions. That gradual shift made interviews feel much less stressful later.
Learning Practical Interview Skills
A major contribution came from the soft skills training sessions conducted by Vrinda Gupta. These sessions covered practical aspects of interviews, things that most academic programs never teach.
We learned how to:
Speak clearly and confidently
Maintain proper body posture during interviews
Present ourselves professionally
Handle interview questions calmly
Those sessions made interviews feel familiar instead of stressful. It felt like we had already practiced the environment before stepping into the real one.
Turning Interviews into Conversations
When I attended the interview, I wasn’t intimidated. It felt more like a structured conversation where I could explain what I had learned and how I think.
Instead of worrying about being judged, I focused on explaining my learning journey, the projects I worked on, and how I approach problems. That comfort level made a big difference in how I communicated during the interview.
Realizing the Value of Communication at Work
After joining Agilisium, I realized that communication skills are just as important as technical skills.
In day-to-day work, you constantly:
Discuss ideas with teammates
Present your findings
Explain technical results to others
Collaborate across teams
The confidence I built during training continues to help me even now. Those soft skills sessions prepared me for much more than interviews. They prepared me for the workplace itself.
Conclusion
Looking back, the placement journey was not just about learning technical tools. It was about becoming comfortable with professional conversations, understanding how to present ideas, and developing the confidence to step into the industry.
The combination of technical learning, mentor guidance, and strong soft skills preparation at Bversity played an important role in helping me start my career. Those experiences didn’t just help me get through interviews, they helped me transition smoothly into my professional role.
