I joined Bversity with a desire to develop my skills and expand my opportunities in bioinformatics, genomics, and data science. The combination of structured modules and practical, hands-on projects built my confidence to apply the knowledge I had learnt. During my time at Bversity, I engaged in amazing projects such as comparative genome annotation, COVID-19 transcriptomics, and AI decision support in clinical bioinformatics. Performing these types of projects not only helped me to build my technical skills but also helped me to become a better problem solver and to think more skillfully as a researcher in the field. Another significant benefit I received from my time at Bversity was greater career support and mentorship.

“Performing projects not only built my technical skills but also shaped me into a better problem solver.”

The mock interviews, help with my resume, and the ongoing encouragement from mentors prepared me to sell my skills. When I began interviewing, I realized how far I had come. Perplexingly, I had pretty much cleared all the interviews that I had attended. The ability to articulate my work, link my academic training to industry needs, and talk about the practical projects I had done was very valuable.

I had also gained some real-world, professional experience:

Bioinformatics Intern CRISPRBITS Private Limited, Bengaluru, Karnataka (May 2025 - Present) Identified and designed high-specificity gRNA sequences for rare genetic diseases using OMIM and clinical variant databases. Designed and automated CRISPR guide RNA design pipelines in Python (e.g. for target selection and off-target prediction (e.g. CRISPOR, CHOPCHOP, SnapGene)). Integrated genomic variant data (i.e. (ClinVar, Ensembl, dbSNP)) to enable precise target validation in potential gene therapy.

Medical Researcher Medizen Humancare Inc., Seoul, South Korea (Feb 2025 - Apr 2025) Selected SNPs from literature curation and database searches to aid the development of genetic testing kits. Developed data pipelines to filter and prioritize genomic variants, increasing the accuracy of the SNP panel. Worked with bioinformatics team to select SNPs that correlated disease relevance with frequency of the SNP in the general population.

Tools & technology: dbSNP, PubMed, Ensembl, Python, Excel, SNPedia, NCBI resources.

“The ability to articulate my work, link my training to industry needs, and showcase practical projects made all the difference in interviews.”

These experiences affirmed everything I learned at Bversity and brought everything together for me in an opportunity to apply it directly to impactful research and industry challenges. This experience has taught me that continuous learning, mentorship, and real-world applications are the keys to success. I am truly thankful to the Bversity team for creating an environment where students are contiuously pushed beyond their comfort zones and are mentored to realize impactful careers.

To future Bversity students, my advice would be: trust the process, give your all to every project and use every opportunity as a learning experience. Success will come.
